Twas the day after Christmas and all through the house
\nnot a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
\nThe leftovers stuffed the refrigerator with care
\nin hopes that the big eaters soon would be there.<\/p>\n
The groans and the moans were echoing round
\nfrom all the overfed people just beginning to sound.
\nAnd I in my night coat moaned and rolled over
\neven as it was announced that it was time to do over.<\/p>\n
Why oh why did we eat all that pie
\nand the plates of food piled so high.
\nThere was nothing to do but dig in again
\nto remove the trembling mounds of leftovers from the food chain.<\/p>\n
From out of the kitchen there arose such a clatter
\nand who should appear but an elf with a platter.
\n“I’m sorry to say, but it is time to begin,
\nyou really do need to eat yet again”.<\/p>\n
On ham and potatoes and casseroles high
\nwe added the rest of the food with a sigh.
\nWith a final groan of delight
\nwe stuffed on the remains of last night.<\/p>\n
It came to an end like a battering ram
\nwhen faced with the remains a three week old ham.
\nWe agreed to a man
\nthat we weren’t going to touch that again.<\/p>\n
